How does the eSIM from TurTrip work in Morocco?
Frequently asked questions about eSIM for Morocco
What is an eSIM and how does it work in Morocco?
An eSIM is a digital profile installed directly on your device; you don’t need a physical SIM card.
With TurTrip, buy your eSIM online, install it on your phone, and get connected without a physical SIM card. Once activated, your eSIM automatically connects to available local networks so you can use the internet throughout your trip to Morocco.
How does unlimited data work on the Morocco eSIM?
All unlimited-data eSIMs for Morocco include unlimited data throughout your trip, so you can explore without worrying about losing your connection. Here’s how it works: you get 1 GB per day at maximum speed, ideal for smooth browsing.
Once you’ve used your daily 1 GB of high-speed data, your service stays active. Your speed is reduced to 1.25 Mbps, so you can still use WhatsApp, Google Maps and social media, check bookings, find restaurants, or read your email. You stay connected even after using your daily high-speed allowance.
Your 1 GB of high-speed data resets automatically every 24 hours. There’s nothing you need to do: each day of your trip, you get a fresh high-speed allowance to use your phone as usual.
Which devices support TurTrip’s eSIM for Morocco?
TurTrip’s eSIM for Morocco supports many models of iPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel and other brands with built-in eSIM technology.
To use it, your device must meet two basic requirements:
- Support eSIM technology.
- Be unlocked (not locked to a carrier).
Also check that your phone supports the mobile network bands used at your destination.
Before buying, find your model in our search tool: Check my phone. You can check compatibility and any restrictions based on the version or country of purchase.
For more information, see our guide to eSIM-compatible phones.
What coverage does my eSIM offer in Morocco?
Coverage is very good in major cities and tourist areas such as Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez, Rabat, and Tangier. Your connection uses the networks of Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and Medi Telecom.
In rural areas, in the desert or on long road trips, speeds may vary, although a basic connection is usually available for maps and messaging.
Does this eSIM include calls and SMS with a local Moroccan number?
No. All TurTrip plans for Morocco are data-only. For calls, use VoIP apps such as WhatsApp, LINE, or Skype over mobile data or Wi-Fi.
How long is my eSIM plan valid for?
It depends on the plan you choose, such as 7, 15, or 30 days. The validity period starts when you set up or activate your eSIM in Morocco, not when you pay.
All TurTrip eSIMs also have a 6-month validity period. If you don’t use your eSIM during that time, it expires automatically 6 months after its last use.
What connection speeds can I expect in Morocco?
The eSIM offers 3G, 4G, LTE, and 5G speeds depending on coverage and location. In urban areas, the experience is usually smooth; in less populated areas, speeds may be lower, with stability taking priority over maximum speed.
Can I use a hotspot to share data with other devices?
Yes. You can use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot to share your eSIM connection, as long as your device supports it. Any data you use counts toward your data plan’s allowance.
Do I need to enable data roaming in Morocco?
Yes. For your eSIM to work correctly, enable data roaming. There are no extra charges because you’re not roaming with your usual carrier.
What should I do if my eSIM doesn’t activate when I arrive?
Make sure your eSIM is selected as your mobile data line and data roaming is on, then restart your phone. If the problem continues, contact our support team.
Can I install my eSIM before traveling to Morocco?
Yes, and we recommend it. You can install your eSIM before your trip and turn on mobile data only when you arrive in Morocco. Until then, you won’t use any data or days of validity.
Does the eSIM work in the desert or on long excursions?
It works in most tourist areas and towns, but in the desert, mountainous areas or on long road trips, coverage may be limited and connection speeds may be slower. This is normal and depends on the location, not the eSIM.
Can I use my eSIM if I cross the border into another country?
No. The Morocco eSIM only works within the country. If you travel elsewhere, you’ll need an eSIM for that country or a regional eSIM.
Does the eSIM work with banking apps, transportation apps, and local services?
Yes. Banking apps and apps like Google Maps, WhatsApp, Uber, Careem and tour apps work normally with your data eSIM.
Can I buy an eSIM when I’m already in Morocco?
Yes. You can buy it at any time. Delivery is instant and installation is quick, provided you have Wi-Fi to install it.
