How does the TurTrip eSIM work in Indonesia?
Frequently Asked Questions About eSIMs for Indonesia
What is an eSIM and how does it work in Indonesia?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card that installs directly on your phone, without a physical card. With a TurTrip eSIM, you can connect to mobile internet in Indonesia quickly and easily, without replacing your usual SIM.
En Indonesia, la eSIM funciona conectándose automáticamente a los local operators available, so you can browse with 4G/5G data in cities, tourist areas and most populated areas. Install your eSIM directly from your TurTrip account or, if you prefer, using a QR code. When you arrive, turn on mobile data and data roaming to get online.
An eSIM is ideal for traveling in Indonesia because it lets you keep your usual number for calls and texts (if you choose) and use the TurTrip eSIM exclusively for data, avoiding roaming charges and hassles.

How does unlimited data work on an eSIM in Indonesia?
All unlimited data eSIMs for Indonesia include unlimited data throughout your trip, so you can stay connected without worrying about running out. The system is simple and transparent: you get 1 GB per day at maximum speed, ideal for smooth browsing.
Once you’ve used your daily 1 GB of high-speed data, your service stays active. Your speed is reduced to 1.25 Mbps, so you can still use WhatsApp, Google Maps and social media, check bookings, find restaurants, or read your email. You stay connected even after using your daily high-speed allowance.
Your 1 GB of high-speed data resets automatically every 24 hours. There’s nothing you need to do: each day of your trip, you get a fresh high-speed allowance to use your phone as usual.
Where will I have coverage?
Your TurTrip eSIM connects to the main networks of the archipelago, ensuring coverage in major urban areas (Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta) and many remote islands. Coverage may vary in very isolated locations, but you will always have LTE/5G wherever a network is available.
How do I purchase and activate the TurTrip eSIM for Indonesia?
-
Visit our website and choose your data plan for Indonesia.
-
Complete your purchase.
-
In your TurTrip account, tap the installation link to add the eSIM directly to your phone. You can use the QR code instead if you prefer.
-
When you land in Indonesia, enable mobile data on your eSIM and data roaming, and browse the web without worrying about roaming charges or physical top-ups.
What connection speed can I expect?
You'll browse using LTE and 5G depending on local network availability. In cities and tourist areas, speeds can exceed hundreds of Mbps; in rural areas, speeds will default to standard LTE, ensuring stable performance for apps and video calls.
How long do my data and my plan last?
Each package indicates its validity (for example, 7, 15, or 30 days) from the first connection. It does not use data before activation: your eSIM is ready in your account and only starts consuming data when you enable it in Indonesia.
All TurTrip eSIMs also have a 6-month validity period. If you don’t use your eSIM during that time, it expires automatically 6 months after its last use.
Does the TurTrip eSIM work during connecting flights or layovers?
Your eSIM activates when it connects to a supported local network in Indonesia. This can also happen during a layover, even if you stay in the airport’s transit area. If you turn on your eSIM line, mobile data and data roaming and your phone connects to that network, your plan’s validity period will begin and you may use data. If you don’t want your plan to start during the layover, keep your eSIM line turned off until you’re ready to use it.
Can I use a hotspot to share data with other devices?
Yes. Most TurTrip plans in Indonesia allow hotspot or tethering. Just enable the "Personal Hotspot" feature on your phone to connect your laptop or tablet. Keep in mind that sharing data will consume your plan faster.
Do I need to manually activate the eSIM when I land in Indonesia?
If you have already installed the profile beforehand: when you turn on your phone in Indonesia and enable "Mobile Data" and "Data Roaming", the eSIM will connect automatically. If there is no immediate signal, restart the device or toggle Airplane Mode on and off to force a network search.
What should I do if my eSIM doesn’t activate when I arrive?
-
Make sure your phone is unlocked and that Airplane Mode is turned off.
-
Make sure you've installed the correct profile and that the selected eSIM is the one that's active under “Mobile Data.”
-
Turn data roaming on and off.
-
Restart the device.
-
If the issue persists, log in to your TurTrip account and contact our support team so we can help you.
Can I use the same eSIM on future trips to Indonesia?
Yes. The profile will remain on your device. If you return within 6 months and your eSIM hasn't expired, and you top it up, you'll just need to enable data when you arrive.
Are there fair usage limits or throttling?
Our plans have no hidden fees or strict fair usage restrictions. If the network is congested, speeds may be temporarily adjusted to keep the network stable, but your connection will remain smooth.
